A new group forming to sing polyphony

of the Middle Ages and Renaissance

We’ll do sacred and secular music in several languages, working on vocal technique and building repertoire.

First and Third Tuesdays

There are two goals for this group:

The choir works on vocal technique in the context of the group, using easy pieces to build repertoire and confidence in applying vocal technique while making music. Over time, we’ll sing increasingly complex pieces.
The conductor works on learning to conduct. Making good music with increasingly clear leadership will reward the choir’s patience.

There is no goal to perform. If the group becomes comfortable singing together and wants to perform, performing can become a goal.

Musical choices are based on providing a musically satisfying experience from a historic period, and the choir is welcome to make suggestions. (Conductor’s choice, of course.)

Agenda:

Vocal technique: Each rehearsal starts with vocal exercises and warm-ups, focusing on unifying vowel sounds, building muscle memory and vocal health, and blending the group sound.
Learning music: We’ll sing easy pieces and apply our vocal techniques, providing a sense of musical satisfaction right from the start. Over time, we’ll build repertoire and work on increasingly complex music.
